Rave Reviews Book Club’s Spotlight Author Bruce A. Borders

As the Rave Reviews Book Club’s first Spotlight Author, it is a pleasure and a privilege for me to host the succeeding Spotlight Authors. Today it is Bruce A. Borders, author of several books, Vice President of Rave Reviews Book Club, and someone who is incredibly supportive of the club’s members. You can support Bruce by buying his books on Amazon and promoting him through social media. This is his time in the spotlight!

First, thank you Rave Reviews Book Club for voting me this week’s Spotlight Author! And, a huge thanks to all the members who agreed to host me on their site!

My latest book, Inside Room 913, is one of those odd books that are difficult to place in a specific genre. Some call it a mystery, some refer to it as a suspense novel, and others categorize it as crime-fiction. It is, however, none of those, not by the true definition anyway. Yet, the book has elements of each of these genres.

When the writing of the book began, I’d planned on a short suspense, a mini-mystery – a novella. I wanted a book that most people could read at one sitting. Less than one hundred pages was my goal. Then, as writers are sometimes known to do, I didn’t know where to stop and kept writing. The further I got into the story, the more I needed to tell.

By the time I’d finished the rough draft, it had grown to well over 200 pages – not exactly a mini-mystery. Then, the editing process started and the page count did come down, eventually settling at 155 pages in the print version.

The point is, when writing, the book sometimes takes on a life of its own – at least it works that way for me. I’m never sure what’s going to happen or where we are going. Sometimes, I’m just as surprised as a reader by what unfolds. Which is probably why I ended up with a book that doesn’t quite fit into any genre! But for those who NEED to know a book’s genre, I’ve decided Inside Room 913 is a short, crime-fiction, mystery, suspense novel.
